Nice to see the blog and general improvements with RTK, I found the site about 6 months ago and enjoy it, even though I haven't been using it much recently - but I am starting to get back into now. I have been studying the kanji via Heisig's remembering the kanji book as well as using reviewing the kanji site and this one to cement the knowledge. I believe all 3 resources are useful and beneficial. To help other people I have started a facebook page listing all the resources i've come across over the last several months for learning japanese. People can suggest sites that aren't already there. Of course RTK is there already. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Best-Links-for-Learning-Japanese/482183665552

Everyone, thanks for the comments. I hadn't even realized the article was live until just a few minutes ago! I'm glad to see that we have a nice variety of visitors to our site, from within Japan to just an hour (or two?) drive away from me. I hope you'll find the blog useful!

Great to hear from another Japanese language student in Texas. I live in College Station, just north of you. You aren't kidding about not being able to use the language very often!

I'm thankful for sites like this one and smart.fm, which are helping me to reach the level of fluency I think I can eventually attain.

I'm an ex-pat American who was living and working in London. I decided to follow a long-held dream to learn Japanese, so quit, moved to Osaka and enrolled at the YMCA 日本語学院 there. I'm just approaching 2 years, after which I'll switch to using a private tutor.

Despite being now in the advanced course at our school, the kanji is still a complex mix of beauty and disaster for me. Now working on kanji for the JLPT 1kyuu (or maybe the BJT 2kyuu -- haven't decided yet) and -- ahem -- I'm forgetting 初級 kanji. RTK is really quite handy for me as an adjunct to class.

Glad to find someone who went to Yamasa. I visited there last year when I was in Aichi-ken on other business. I really like my school, but I must say that Yamasa looks superior!
