Read The Kanji has a unique system built behind it to determine which words you know, and which ones you often make mistakes on. Then, with that information, we try to quiz you more often on the words you know, and less on the ones you don't. The end result is that as Read The Kanji is always doing its best to test you on your weaker words, the quiz remains challenging.
The way Read The Kanji determines your weaker words is by giving each word you do a "strength" level. Everytime you correctly answer a word, it's strength level rises; each time it is marked incorrect, it's strength level drops. Then, by reading this strength, Read The Kanji can figure out which words to keep testing and which ones to ignore. Strength ratings are applied not only to words, but also to the individual kanji within those words. In other words, given the word 銀行, the word 銀行 would receive its own strength rating, as well as a separate rating for 銀, and another separate rating for 行. This allows us to fully map your progression of words in the decks you're studying, and to also map your strength of kanji independent of those decks.
We show a word's strength level during the quiz visually using colors, red being the weakest and green being the strongest (read about strength colors). For visual learners, like myself, this is a very handy feature as you can actually see which words are new words, and how well you're progressing.
