Quiz Elements Explained

Read The Kanji works simply by asking you to read a particular kanji compound, checks whether your answer is correct or not, and records the results for the future. With these results, the system learns to differentiate between words you know quite well and words you mistake often. Therefore, Read The Kanji knows to ask weaker words more frequently than stronger words, resulting in a fairly challenging quiz each time. New words are also introduced in each round of words to keep you progressing smoothly and easily through the various decks of words we have available.

Below is a small explanation of all the elements involved in a quiz, what a current quiz looks like, as well as an explanation of our special features.

  1. Hint - As some kanji have different readings, some words have a hint message attached to them to help differentiate similar kanji and guide you as to what reading the system is looking for. In the example, the quiz is asking the reading for 七, but this kanji can be read as either なな or しち depending on the context. Here, we can see by the hint "7:00pm, or July", two examples of words which use only the しち, so the answer is しち.
